Explore Tokyo and visit several ports of call on the luxurious Diamond Princess.
We arrive in Tokyo this morning and disembark for sightseeing in the capital. Our tour extension begins after lunch as we travel by bullet train to Hiroshima. The fastest way to travel these high-speed trains can reach speeds of 199 mph. Upon arrival in Hiroshima, we check-in for a two night stay. B,L
Today we tour Hiroshima Castle, also known as Carp Castle for the fish in its scenic moat. Originally built in the 16th century, this five-tiered fortress was destroyed in World War II, rebuilt in replica in the 1950s, and today houses an extraordinary museum on Samurai culture and the city’s history. Arrive in the heart of the city at Hiroshima Peace Park, with almost 30 acres dedicated to the memory of victims of Hiroshima’s fateful nuclear attack. Constructed on an open field produced by the blast, there is time to stroll the grounds, see the Children’s Peace Monument, visit the Peace Memorial Museum, and witness the A-Bomb Dome – the building closest to the explosion’s hypocenter that remains standing. We return to Tokyo by bullet train and fly home with lifelong memories of our incredible adventure in Japan. B
Note: Due to luggage restrictions on the bullet train guests may bring a day bag only on the Hiroshima Extension. Luggage will be stored securely in Tokyo.
