Experience the world-famous architecture, regional flavors, and cultural riches of Rome and the luxurious isle of Sicily. Our beautiful tour of Rome and Sicily begins with three nights in the capital of Italy, Rome. We will explore classic landmarks including the Colosseum, Trevi Fountain, and the Vatican City’s Sistine Chapel and St. Peter’s Basilica. Next, we fly to Sicily spending five nights surrounded by the Mediterranean Sea in extraordinarily beautiful cities, exploring the Sicilian countryside, and dining on delicious regional cuisine. Major highlights in Sicily include city tours of the hilltop town of Taormina, Noto, the coastal city of Syracuse, and the island’s capital of Palermo. A few included attractions will be visits to ancient architectural wonders such as the Valley of the Temples and the Villa Romana de Casale, a breathtaking palace from the Roman Empire.

Day 1 : Ciao Italia!
Our wonderful Italian vacation begins with a relaxing flight to Rome.
Day 2 : Classic Rome
Discover some of the most recognizable ancient landmarks in Rome, including the Pantheon, the famous ancient temple, and the Trevi Fountain. According to legend, tossing a coin into the fountain ensures you will return to Rome someday. We’ll also visit the Spanish Steps, which connects the Spagna and Trinità dei Monti plazas, the grand Piazza Navona, a square decorated with sculptures and once the site of an ancient stadium. The afternoon is ours to explore our surroundings. Later, get to know your new traveling companions at a Welcome Dinner. B,D
Day 3 : Vatican City & Ancient Rome
Our day begins with a guided tour of the Vatican Museums featuring some of the most renowned classical sculptures and Renaissance art in the world. Explore St. Peter’s Basilica, including relics such as the Altar of the Sacred Heart, the Chair of Saint Peter and the Pietà. On our afternoon tour of Imperial Rome, visit the Colosseum, the largest amphitheater in the world, and the Roman Forum, once the political heart of the Roman Empire. Behold the Forum’s ancient buildings as our tour guide brings these ruins to life with true stories of Roman emperors and gladiators. B
Day 4 : To Sicily!
This morning we fly to Sicily, the largest island in the Mediterranean Sea and a magnificent cornerstone to Italian history, art, culture and cuisine. We land in Catania where the volcanic Mount Etna towers over the eastern coast, then travel north to Taormina, a hilltop town with beautiful cliffs, coves and sandy beaches. Join our experienced guide for a walking tour of the town with sights including the famous Greek Theater and a stroll down the main street Corso Vittorio Emanuele. B,D
Day 5 : Syracuse & Noto
Spend the day in the historic Sicilian cities of Syracuse, once a major power of ancient Greece, and Noto, a village at the foot of the Hyblaean Mountains. Noto was rebuilt after an earthquake in the 17th century and is now the island’s best example of Sicilian baroque architecture. Tour the beautiful communities with our knowledgeable guide, then enjoy a Nero d’Avola wine tasting with other local delights including almonds, honey, marmalades and preserves. Return to Taormina this evening with dinner on our own in the romantic Mediterranean climate. B,D
Day 6 : Villa Romana Del Casale
Travel inland to the town of Caltagirone, famous for its pottery since antiquity, for a traditional lunch of homemade pasta, ricotta cheese, and other fixings. Our vacation continues to the village of Piazza Armerina where we visit the renowned Villa Romana del Casale, an elaborate Roman estate dating back to the fourth century. The villa is home to one of the greatest collections of Roman mosaics in the world. Explore the villa’s monumental halls and artwork, then have dinner in Agrigento on Sicily’s southwest coast. B,L,D
Day 7 : Valley of the Temples
Agrigento is home to an extraordinary archaeological park called the Valley of the Temples, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and home to several Greek and Roman ruins, including the exceptionally well-preserved Temple of Concordia. We tour the site, then enjoy a picnic lunch in the nearby Gardens of Kolymbetra, rich with almond trees, olive trees, and several kinds of citrus trees. Travel north to Palermo and settle into our comfortable accommodations for the evening. B,D
Day 8 : Palermo & Monreale
Today we tour Palermo, the capital of Sicily and the nearby village of Monreale. Visit the Norman Palace and its hallowed golden chapel where impressive mosaics reveal biblical tales, and the Norman Cathedral, one of the greatest examples of Norman architecture in the world. Our dinner tonight takes place in the streets of Palermo, where street vendors will be selling Sicilian specialties such as arancini, pani ca meusa, panelle, and cannoli. Palermo has a bountiful history of street food that goes back to a time when the city’s richest families would recycle leftovers for the people who served them and lived in their estate. Those people would then share these meals with the rest of the city. B,D
Day 9 : Return to the Mainland
Enjoy a relaxing flight to Rome from the Palermo airport. In the evening we celebrate our incredible vacation to Rome and Sicily with our new friends at a Holiday Vacations Farewell Dinner. B,D
Day 10 : Addio Italia
Fly home with lasting memories of our wonderful Mediterranean adventure. B
