Day 1 : Fly to Spokane

We fly to Spokane and check-in to our hotel for a one-night stay. The evening is at leisure to get acquainted with our fellow traveling companions.

Day 2 : Montana

We travel through Washington and Idaho into Montana’s Big Sky Country and view some of the most spectacular scenery our nation has to offer. We enjoy a Holiday Vacations Welcome Lunch in Missoula before continuing our journey north. Along our route enjoy incredible views of Flathead Lake and the surrounding Flathead National Forest. Our accommodations are in Whitefish this evening.

Day 3 : White Water Rafting

After an included breakfast, a knowledgeable guide joins us for a white water rafting adventure in Glacier National Park. Witness phenomenal views as we paddle the Flathead River’s Middle Fork. This river’s rapids are Class II-III, which means we’ll have an exciting but safe time out on the water. We return to Whitefish for the night.

Day 4 : Going-to-the-Sun Road

This morning we board vintage red touring cars for a journey on one of the world’s most scenic routes, the Going-to-the-Sun Road. Glacier National Park features over 20 glaciers and 200 lakes as standing reminders of the last ice age. Wildlife in Glacier National Park includes bighorn sheep, mountain goats, elk, and moose. We enjoy an included lunch at the Snowgoose Grill, then continue our journey with a scenic trek to Great Falls where we stay for the evening.

Day 5 : Lewis & Clark Historic Trail

We begin our day with a tour of the Lewis & Clark Historic Trail Interpretive Center to relive the explorers’ brave journey. Stroll the center’s exhibits and interpretive panels that highlight artifacts, tell stories, and reveal artwork depicting the 8000-mile journey. After an included lunch onsite, we depart for West Yellowstone.

Day 6 : Yellowstone National Park

A local guide joins us for a tour of Yellowstone National Park’s Northern Loop. Possibly the world’s first National Park, Yellowstone was established in 1872 to protect a large variety of wildlife and preserve the world’s largest collection of geysers and hot springs. Keep a watchful eye out for bison, bears, elk, bighorn sheep, and more. Afterwards, we return to our hotel in West Yellowstone with dinner and the evening on our own.

Day 7 : Old Faithful

A park guide joins us today to explore Yellowstone National Park’s Southern Loop. We stop at Old Faithful, the most famous geyser in the world, before viewing the paint pots, bubbling hot springs mixed with clay. Have your camera ready to capture stunning views of the Lower Yellowstone Falls and the multicolored Grand Canyon of Yellowstone. Our scenic drive takes us through Hayden Valley, a region of lush forest meadows. Watch for bison and other wildlife! We depart Yellowstone this afternoon and settle in for a comfortable two-night stay in Jackson, Wyoming.

Day 8 : The Grand Tetons

This morning we visit Grand Teton National Park. At the Craig Thomas Discovery & Visitor Center, there is time to view a video and explore the fantastic exhibit on the history of Grand Teton National Park. We make several photo stops and visit the Chapel of the Transfiguration, a rustic log church with glorious views of the majestic Tetons. Our included dinner tonight features a covered wagon ride in Cache Creek Canyon. Enjoy a tasty barbecue cookout along with the music and songs of the old West!

Day 9 : Salt Lake City

Another scenic drive takes us from Jackson into Utah and Salt Lake City. Tonight we dine at the Roof Restaurant, a spectacular deluxe restaurant in Temple Square with breathtaking views of downtown. Our accommodations this evening are in downtown Salt Lake City.

Day 10 : Tabernacle Choir

Our day begins with a visit to see the Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square as they record a performance for the longest-running radio broadcast of its kind in the United States. Next, a local guide joins us for a tour of Salt Lake City where we’ll see and learn about historic Fort Douglas, the University of Utah, Historic Brigham Street, the State Capitol, and more. Lunch and the afternoon is at our leisure. Later, we’ll celebrate our vacation with our traveling companions at a Holiday Vacations Farewell Dinner at Christopher’s Steakhouse in downtown.

Day 11 : Fly Home

We return home from Salt Lake City with photos and memories of scenic western America.

Hal Jay

The most recognizable laugh in the Metroplex belongs to Hal Jay, host of WBAP Morning News (5 a.m. to 9 a.m.). Hal has been a key member of the WBAP Morning News since 1981 when he started his radio career as a teenager.

Hal is involved in a variety of community service endeavors, charitable organizations and is a native of Fort Worth.
