Cruise sapphire-blue Lake Tahoe, explore San Francisco, and visit a variety of inspiring destinations along the California Coast. In “The City by the Bay,” San Francisco, we’ll join a city tour with a local guide, relax on a San Francisco Bay cruise, and a ride on the city’s classic cable cars. Go on a train ride through towering redwood groves at Roaring Camp Railroad Station. We’ll also drive along famous 17 Mile Drive and tour the Monterey Bay Aquarium, the Carmel Mission Basilica Museum, Hearst Castle, and the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library on our way to Los Angeles. In LA we’ll tour Hollywood, attend a Warner Brothers Studio VIP Tour, and more.

Day 1 : Fly to Reno

We fly to Reno, Nevada and begin with a comfortable two-night stay at the Lake Tahoe Resort Hotel.

Day 2 : Lake Tahoe Cruise

This morning we board the M.S. Dixie paddlewheeler for a narrated cruise on sapphire-blue Lake Tahoe, voted as the best Boat Cruise for several years running. The evening is ours to relax at our resort hotel, explore the South Lake Tahoe area, or try our luck at a nearby casino.

Day 3 : Sacramento

Wonder at the Sierra Nevada Mountains this morning as we cross into California’s beautiful Central Valley. In Sacramento, the state capital, gather for a delicious Holiday Vacations Welcome Lunch. Our journey continues westward to San Francisco where we enjoy excellent accommodations for the next two nights.

Day 4 : San Francisco

After a ride on one of the city’s timeless cable cars we are joined by an expert local guide for a tour of the City by the Bay. We see the highlights of this bustling city including Twin Peaks, Market Street, Chinatown, and iconic Golden Gate Park. After our tour, we enjoy lunch and leisure time at famous Pier 39, located along Fisherman’s Wharf.

Day 5 : The Pacific Coast

This morning we say goodbye to San Francisco and travel south to the Roaring Camp Railroad Station. Upon arrival we board one of the most authentically preserved narrow-gauge steam engines in America and enjoy a round-trip journey through the towering redwood groves to the summit of Bear Mountain and back. Later we enjoy scenic vistas of California’s famous 17 Mile Drive. Have your camera ready for stops along the route including the Lone Cyprus and Pebble Beach. We then make our way to our accommodations for two nights in Monterey.

Day 6 : Monterey Bay & Whale Watching

This morning we enjoy a narrated whale watching excursion into the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary. Look out for whales, dolphins, and other marine wildlife. After some leisure time on Cannery Row we will have a self-guided tour of the Monterey Bay Aquarium to see their fascinating exhibits.

Day 7 : Hearst Castle

Today’s route follows coastal Highway 1 where roaring waves, sheer rocky cliffs, and stunning ocean views dominate the landscape. At Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park, we get another view of California’s majestic Redwoods. Today we tour Hearst Castle, the elegant mountaintop estate of the late William Randolph Hearst. Discover fabulous art, priceless antiques, and beautiful gardens after viewing the introductory film Building the Dream. Our overnight accommodations are in San Luis Obispo.

Day 8 : The Reagan Library

Our journey continues south this morning to the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library. We take time to explore the largest Presidential Library in the United States, including exhibits such as Air Force One, the National Treasures Gallery, a tribute to First Lady Nancy Reagan, and the Oval Office. Afterwards, we make our way to Los Angeles for a comfortable two-night stay.

Day 9 : Hollywood Highlights

This morning we pick up a local guide for a tour of Hollywood. See Grauman’s Chinese Theatre and the Walk of Fame while learning this fascinating city’s history. This afternoon we explore the Farmer’s Market before a Warner Brothers Studio VIP tour. We experience the magic of filmmaking and see the iconic sets from beloved television shows and movies. Tonight, we reminisce at a Holiday Vacations Farewell Dinner.

We travel home with fond memories of our adventure in California.

Born and raised in Rockford,Shannon Kelly grew up watching 23 News and is thrilled to report the news in her hometown.She started in May 2017 as a multimedia journalist at WIFR and moved to weeknight anchor in October 2018.

“I love meeting new people every single day. Each day is different. I could never, ever sit at a desk from 9 to 5. I love being able to take a topic that people care about and produce a story that other people can relate to.”

Shannon graduated from Boylan High School and Michigan State University, where she got involved with a student-run sports broadcast group and changed her major from marketing to journalism.

When she’s not at work, you’ll find Shannon hanging out with family and friends, shopping, doing yoga or trying new restaurants.
