Day 1 : Fly to Denver

Our overnight accommodations are in Denver, Colorado’s capital city. This evening, enjoy getting acquainted with our fellow travelers.

Day 2 : Colorado Rockies

This morning we board the Amtrak California Zephyr and begin a breath-taking climb up the frontal range of the Rockies. We cross the Continental Divide through the 6.2 mile Moffat Tunnel, one of 29 tunnels along our route! Enjoy the views as we make our way through the spectacular canyons of the Rocky Mountains. Our private sleeping car compartments are comfortable sitting rooms by day that easily convert to cozy sleepers at night. All meals are included in the Dining Car aboard the train. Tonight we travel into Utah.

Day 3 : Sierra Nevadas

Enjoy breakfast as Nevada landscapes greet us. We disembark the train in Reno midmorning, then continue by motorcoach for a delightful day of leisure time and sightseeing. Tonight we travel to Lake Tahoe in the majestic Sierra Nevada Mountains for the evening.

Day 4 : Lake Tahoe Cruise

This morning we board the M.S. Dixie paddlewheeler for a narrated cruise on sapphire-blue Lake Tahoe, voted as the Best Boat Cruise for several years running. Following our cruise, we make our way through California’s beautiful Central Valley to San Francisco where we enjoy excellent accommodations for two nights.

Day 5 : San Francisco

After a ride on one of the city’s timeless cable cars we are joined by an expert local guide for a tour of the City by the Bay. We see the high¬lights of this bustling city including Twin Peaks, Market Street, Chinatown and iconic Golden Gate Park. After our tour, we enjoy lunch and leisure time at famous Pier 39, located along Fisherman’s Wharf.

Day 6 : The Pacific Coast

This morning we say goodbye to San Francisco and travel south to the Roaring Camp Railroad Station. Upon arrival we board one of the most authentically preserved narrow-gauge steam engines in America and enjoy a round-trip journey through the towering redwood groves to the summit of Bear Mountain and back. Later we enjoy scenic vistas of California’s famous 17 Mile Drive. Have your camera ready for stops along the route including the Lone Cyprus and Pebble Beach. We then make our way to our accommodations for two nights in Monterey.

Day 7 : Monterey Bay Aquarium & Whale Watching

This morning we enjoy a narrated whale watching excursion into the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary. Look out for whales, dolphins, and other marine wildlife. After some leisure time on Cannery Row we will have a self-guided tour at the Monterey Bay Aquarium to see their fascinating exhibits.

Day 8 : Hearst Castle

Today’s route follows coastal Highway 1 where roaring waves, sheer rocky cliffs and stunning ocean views dominate the landscape. At Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park we get another view of California’s majestic Redwoods. Today we tour Hearst Castle, an elegant mountaintop estate of the late William Randolph Hearst. Discover fabulous art, priceless antiques and beautiful gardens after viewing the introductory film Building the Dream. Our overnight accommodations are in San Luis Obispo.

Day 9 : Reagan Library

Our journey continues south this morning to the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library. We take time to explore the largest Presidential Library in the United States, including exhibits such as Air Force One, the National Treasures Gallery, a tribute to First Lady Nancy Reagan and the Oval Office. Afterwards, we make our way to Los Angeles for a comfortable two-night stay.

Day 10 : Hollywood Highlights

This morning we pick up a local guide for a tour of Hollywood. See Grauman’s Chinese Theatre and the Walk of Fame while learning this fascinating city’s history. This afternoon we explore the Farmer’s Market before a Warner Brothers Studio VIP tour. We experience the magic of filmmaking and see the iconic sets from beloved television shows and movies. Tonight we reminisce at a Holiday Vacations Farewell Dinner.

David Paul

David is WTVY’s Chief Meteorologist and anchors weekdays at 5:00 P.M., 6:00 P.M. and 10:00 P.M.

He graduated with a meteorology degree from Northern Illinois University in 1997 and began his career at KTVO-TV in Kirksville, Missouri. A year later he moved to KIMT-TV in Mason City, Iowa, where he served as the station’s morning and noon meteorologist. In 2000, David moved to WQAD-TV in Moline, Illinois, serving as weekend meteorologist.

From there, he moved to KLFY-TV in Lafayette, Louisiana, serving 10 years as chief meteorologist and fulfilling a long-time desire to cover hurricanes and tropical storms from the area of impact. David made his way to Dothan in 2015. He received the American Meteorological Society Seal of Approval for his weathercasts in 2000 and the Certified Broadcast Meteorologist designation in 2006.

David enjoys spending time with his wife and two daughters, home improvement projects, hitting the gym, and playing or watching sports.
