Day 1 : Fly to Boston

Upon arrival on the East Coast, we check-in for a two-night stay at the Embassy Suites Boston Logan.

Day 2 : JFK Library & Boston Sights

We begin our discoveries of Boston at the John F. Kennedy Library. Here, a documentary film and exhibits provide insight into the Kennedy Era with personal and historic artifacts shedding light on the life of JFK and his family. Afterwards we head into Boston and pause for lunch in the dining halls of Quincy Market, a National Historic Landmark where the pushcart was invented. Later, we join an 18th century costumed guide on a tour exploring the historic sites of the Freedom Trail and their crucial role in the American Revolution. Visit the Granary Burying Ground, were some of America’s most notable citizens rest including Paul Revere and Samuel Adams; and enter the Old North Church, where signal lanterns ignited the American Revolution. Enjoy a special Sweet Tea & Carolina Country Dinner with your Tour Director this evening.

Day 3 : Salem

This morning we board a ferry and cruise to the city of Salem, home to the infamous Salem witch trials. Tour the city and see the Witch Trials Memorial, the House of Seven Gables, the Salem Witch Museum, and more. Enjoy leisure time in Salem to eat, explore, and shop before departing for Portsmouth, New Hampshire. Upon arrival we tour the Strawbery Banke Museum, a wonderful heritage park and history museum with dozens of restored buildings and exhibits on colonial life. We arrive in North Conway this evening and check-in to our overnight accommodations.

Day 4 : Kancamagus Highway

Some of New England’s most beloved vistas unfold before us today on the Kancamagus Highway, amidst the lush foliage and towering White Mountains of New Hampshire. Here, pristine brooks babble under covered bridges that harken to simpler times. Tour Fadden’s Sugarhouse and learn about maple syrup production, from tapping the trees all the way to the final product. This afternoon we stop at the King Arthur Flour Bakery and enjoy time to shop and snack. Our accommodations tonight are at the Hampton Inn White River Junction.

Day 5 : Hildene – The Lincoln Family Home

This morning we tour the home of Robert Lincoln. He was the only child of Abraham and Mary Todd Lincoln to live to adulthood who later became Chairman of the Pullman Company. His Georgian Revival mansion was built in 1905 and is nestled in a valley surrounded by the scenic Green Mountain National Forest. Tour the mansion, the grounds, explore the 1903 Pullman Palace Car, Sunbeam, and much more. Later, visit Bennington Pottery to learn about their ‘hands-on’ approach to the pottery-making process. We spend the next two nights amidst the comfort and luxury of the Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott in Great Barrington, Massachusetts, the heart of the Berkshires.

Day 6 : Norman Rockwell Museum & Shaker Village

After breakfast visit The Mount, a country house that belonged to author Edith Wharton. Wharton is best known for being the first woman to win the Pulitzer Prize for literature in 1921 for her novel The Age of Innocence. Next, visit Norman Rockwell’s former home and studio, now housing a fascinating museum of his life, art and legacy. We continue to the Hancock Shaker Village, where we admire the famous Roundstone Barn and enjoy a typical Shaker lunch. A guided tour sheds light on the pacifist, communal Shaker lifestyle and some of their handmade furniture.

Day 7 : New York City

Today we trade nature’s grand panorama for the exciting cityscape of The Big Apple. Join a narrated tour with a local guide, passing such landmarks as Times Square, Greenwich Village, Chinatown, and Fifth Avenue. For the next two nights we stay in the heart of Times Square.

Day 8 : NYC Cruise & Broadway Musical

Today we see New York from the water during a one-hour Lower Manhattan Harbor cruise. We pass the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, and have spectacular views of the newly risen One World Trade Center. Then, go behind the scenes at Radio City Music Hall. An insider’s view raises the curtain on the city’s most iconic theater. Tonight, share a Holiday Vacations Farewell Dinner with your fellow travelers and end with a Broadway musical performance.

Charles Ely

Charles came to Oklahoma’s News-Channel 8 from KXAS in Dallas-Fort Worth, where he was a Weekend Anchor and Reporter. He previously reported for WAGA in Atlanta, WBNS in Columbus, and WERE-AM in Cleveland.

Charles is retiring in March of 2019 after more than 34 years of anchoring and reporting in northeastern Oklahoma. He covered most of this region’s big stories over the last three decades. Those reports included live round-the-clock coverage of the Oklahoma City Bombing, the great Midwestern flood and the Edmond Post Office shootings. He also investigated troubled charities and the shortcomings of care for our veterans.

His reporting has received numerous awards, including several Emmy awards plus, the DuPont-Columbia Award, a national Sigma Delta Chi Award for investigative reporting and The Livingston Award for local reporting.

Charles and his wife Robbie now spend time tinkering with old homes and enjoying things like biking, fishing, skiing, and cooking. He has previously hosted several Holiday Vacation tours.
