Day 1 : Flight to California

We begin our adventure with a flight to the City by the Bay and transfer to our deluxe accommodations for two nights.

Day 2 : San Francisco

This morning board San Francisco’s iconic cable cars and ride along downtown’s fascinating streets. Next, a local expert joins us for a driving tour of the city where we see top highlights including Twin Peaks, Market Street, Golden Gate Park, and much more. We break for lunch and leisure time at Fisherman’s Wharf, the historic bayside district with restaurants, shops, and sea lions sunning themselves. Later, we will enjoy a cruise of beautiful San Francisco Bay. We will go under the Golden Gate Bridge and around the infamous Alcatraz Island. There is time to freshen up at the hotel before getting to know your new traveling companions during a Holiday Vacations Welcome Dinner.

Dinner

Day 3 : Napa Valley & Sacramento

This morning we travel to the heart of one of the most celebrated wine-growing regions in the world, Napa Valley. Upon arrival, board the elegantly restored Napa Valley Wine Train where a gourmet lunch and wine sample awaits. Our journey aboard the train includes scenic vineyards, wineries, homes, and gorgeous valley landscapes. This afternoon we tour an organic olive oil farm, see their mill, and experience a tasting of their award-winning oils and balsamic vinegars. This evening we arrive at our hotel in the capital city of Sacramento for a two-night stay.

Lunch

Day 4 : Ranching & Railroads

We begin the day by heading out to the open range and Yolo Land & Cattle Co. in Woodland. The Stone family has raised beef on their ranch since 1976. We will learn about their grass-fed natural Angus cattle operation and sit down for an authentic western steak barbeque lunch. In the afternoon, learn about the 150-year history of rail in the Golden State at the California State Railroad Museum, seeing original engines dating back to the 1860s.

Breakfast, Lunch

Day 5 : California Agriculture

Today we depart Sacramento and journey south. Our included lunch is at Hilmar Cheese Company where we will also learn about their state-of-the-art production facility. A little further down the road, we will tour an almond orchard for Blue Diamond Growers in Merced. Our accommodations for the next two nights are at the extraordinary Harris Ranch Inn. Enjoy the Olympic-style pool, spa, bakery, their Country Store, and the lovely grounds.

Day 6 : World Ag Expo

Wander through the booths and exhibits at the World Ag Expo in Tulare. There are more than 1,200 exhibitors and 2.6 million square feet of exhibit space. Take in a seminar or demonstration while you are there. This is the world’s largest exhibition of this type! In the afternoon, we tour Airoso Dairy which has been operated by the same family for over 100 years. Afterwards we make our way back to Harris Ranch Inn for an included dinner and our second overnight.

Breakfast, Dinner

Day 7 : Monterey

Today we drive to the spectacular California coast and spend the day in Monterey. This area was the setting for John Steinbeck’s famous novel “Cannery Row” and more recently was the filming location for the TV show “Big Little Lies.” After an included lunch the rest of the afternoon and evening are at leisure. This is the perfect day to relax, or you may wish to explore the many shops along the waterfront or visit the renowned Monterey Bay Aquarium.

Day 8 : Roaring Camp Railroad

After a leisurely morning, we arrive at the Roaring Camp Railroad Station for a round-trip journey through towering groves of redwood trees. While similar in tremendous size, redwoods are taller than sequoias, but their cones are smaller, and their bark is darker. Finally, we will tour the Winchester Mystery House; a unique and puzzling architectural creation with a fascinating history. Tonight, we enjoy a wonderful Holiday Vacations farewell dinner with our new traveling companions and spend the night in San Jose.
