Explore the Rhine River, one of the most spellbinding river systems in Europe, from our luxurious Amadeus Cruises ship. We begin our getaway in Amsterdam and visit the Zaanse Schans open-air museum and the Rijksmuseum, Holland’s largest art museum. Next we board our ship for a seven-night cruise along the Rhine River with eight ports of call in Germany, France, and Switzerland. All meals are included aboard ship! After our cruise, tour the medieval city of Lucerne, take a cog railway to the top of Mount Rigi, and enjoy a celebratory Holiday Vacations Farewell Dinner before we return home.

Day 1 : Overnight Flight to Europe
Our journey begins with an overnight flight to Amsterdam.
Day 2 : Amsterdam
We arrive in Amsterdam and meet our European guide and driver.
Step back in time at Zaanse Schans, an open-air museum that brings Dutch heritage to life. Traditional buildings and restored windmills demonstrate the villages that once dotted the land. Visit the museum, wander the village, explore the working mills, and watch artisans make cheese, clogs, and other traditional crafts.
Our accommodations for the evening are at a charming four-star hotel just outside of Amsterdam.

Day 3 : Rijksmuseum
Explore the Bloemenmarkt, Amsterdam's floating flower market area.
Next we depart for a guided tour of the country’s largest museum, The Rijksmuseum. Stroll the halls packed with 16th and 17th century art including works by Vermeer, Frans Hals, and Rembrandt.
Later, board the luxurious Amadeus Imperial. Once settled in, enjoy a reception and wonderful dinner onboard the ship.
Day 4 : City Tour, Canal Trip, Hoorn
This morning, enjoy an interesting guided tour of Amsterdam. Afterwards, take an excursion to the Hoorn area which includes time in charming Volendam, an area known for its vintage fishing boats.
Rejoin the Amadeus Imperial and cruise along IJsselmeer Lake, the biggest lake in Holland. The lake is fed by several rivers including the Rhine.
Day 5 : Cologne
Today’s port of call is 2,000-year-old Cologne. This cultural hub is a landmark of High Gothic architecture, starting with the extraordinary cathedral, whose twin spires dominate the skyline. After the bombing of Cologne during World War II, the city was rebuilt and has become a major area boasting numerous museums and art galleries.
Day 6 : Moselle River & Cochem
Cruise the Moselle River on an excursion to visit one of Germany’s most beautiful river valleys. View vineyards covering the rolling hillsides, castles and ruins dotting the hilltops above villages and towns along the river banks.
Explore the charming town of Cochem, noted for its traditional half-timbered houses and Medieval castle rebuilt in a fairytale style. As we stroll through the old town we’ll sample regional wines and experience the area’s gracious hospitality.
Day 7 : Middle Rhine
In the morning visit Koblenz, one of the oldest and diverse cities in Germany, located at the confluence of the Rhine and Moselle Rivers. The architecture of churches, castles and palaces tell of times gone by as we explore the area.
We return to the ship for lunch.
Later in the day head to the top deck as our vessel cruises the scenic Middle Rhine through the Rhine Gorge. As the Rhine carves its way through steep hills there is always at least one castle in sight. Watch for the Lorelei in the narrowest gorge on the Rhine.
Rudesheim is located in the heart of the Reingau wine region, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and is especially known for its superior Rieslings.
Day 8 : Heidelberg
We’ll dock in Mannheim this morning and take a short drive to Heidelberg, Germany’s oldest and most famous university town.
Heidelberg is also known for its Baroque old town narrow streets, picturesque red-roof tiled houses, beautiful 18thcentury bridge, and breathtaking half-ruined castle.
Later, the ship departs for the handsome town of Speyer. The Speyer Cathedral dominates this city’s setting with its grand structure and beauty.
This evening, enjoy the Captain’s Gala dinner.
Day 9 : Strasbourg
Located on the French border with Germany, Strasbourg is a gorgeous city rich in architectural and historical heritage for visitors to admire. It is also the home of the European Parliament. Strasbourg’s historic city centre, the Grande Île is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
We return to the ship for lunch. Then, relax on the Sun Deck or pamper yourself to a massage while we sail to Basel.
Day 10 : Disembark for Lucerne
This morning we’ll disembark the ship in Basel for a short drive to Lucerne.
Delight in traditional Swiss music and entertainment at the Stadtkeller Folklore Restaurant.
Afterwards, enjoy an orientation tour of this gorgeous city known for its covered wooden foot bridge decorated with interior paintings.
After checking-in to the hotel for a two-night stay, the afternoon and evening are free to explore this delightful town.
Day 11 : Mount Rigi
Today experience Mount Rigi! We’ll glide across cobalt-blue Lake Lucerne on a boat cruise to Vitznau.
There we’ll disembark and board a special cogwheel train needed to transport us up the mountain. Breathtaking panoramic views of the Swiss Mittelland greet us when reaching Rigi Kulm, the highest point.
We descend the mountain by aerial cable car to return to Lucerne and explore the Swiss Chocolate Adventure. This multimedia journey introduces us to the origin, manufacturing and transport of our favorite Swiss confection.
This evening, enjoy an included Holiday Vacations Farewell Dinner.
Day 12 : Fly Home
We fly home with treasured memories of our Rhine River cruise experience.

Rob has been Storm Team 2’s Chief Meteorologist since 1987. Before arriving in Charleston, Rob worked at TV stations in Savannah, Georgia and Green Bay, Wisconsin.
Rob has been awarded the Seal of Approval from both the National Weather Association and the American Meteorological Society.
Following the coverage of Hurricane Hugo, Rob was named “Meteorologist of the Year” by the National Weather Association. Rob has also been recognized as South Carolina’s Weather Broadcaster of the Year in 1997. He won Best Meteorologist in the Carolinas in 2000 from the Radio and Television News Directors Association. He has been named “Best Weather Forecaster” in Charleston for 19 years by the Charleston City Paper. In 2017, Rob celebrated his 30th anniversary at WCBD and was inducted into the Southeast Emmy Silver Circle Society for his years of service on air and in the Charleston Community.
Rob is married and has three children. He is active in the community, volunteering for many organizations. Rob has previously hosted several Holiday Vacations’ tours.
