Explore the history and culture of Central Europe on the Rhine River.
We start our tour extension with motorcoach transportation from Amsterdam to the town of Bayeux, located just off the Normandy coast, and check-in to our hotel for a two-night stay. D
Joined by our World War II guide, we spend the morning at Sainte-Mère-Église, a village American paratroopers seized on D-Day. Hear the fascinating story of American Private John Steele whose parachute caught on the town’s bell tower while fighting carried on below. Visit the Airborne Museum and live the history of the Normandy invasion from preparation to liberation. Break for lunch, then kick off the afternoon at the Point-du-Hoc Ranger Monument. Located on a sheer cliff overlooking Omaha Beach, this is where Americans seized German artillery positions which helped secure American troops’ beach landings. We also visit the American Cemetery to pay our respects among thousands of Crosses and Stars of David. At last, we arrive at Omaha Beach where we may study the battlefield, cross the beach, analyze maps, and pay tribute to the Wings of Hope, Rise Freedom, and Wings of Fraternity, the three facets of Omaha Beach’s famous Les Braves war memorial. B,D
En route to Paris, we pay a visit to the charming village of Giverny and stroll the gardens of famous Impressionist artist Claude Monet. Surrounded by nature’s beauty, the serene atmosphere of his home and gardens will feel as if we have stepped into one of his celebrated paintings. A scrumptious Holiday Vacations Farewell Lunch is held at the onsite inn where we celebrate our European getaway with new friends. Arrive in the cosmopolitan city of Paris for sightseeing including photo stops at the Eiffel Tower and the Arc de Triomphe. Later we enjoy a relaxing overnight in the city. B,L
