Join Holiday Vacations president and former Alaska resident Jerre Fuqua on a 11-night luxury Windstar cruise exploring Alaska aboard the Star Breeze. This all-suite yacht navigates Alaskan wilderness waterways and inlets beyond the reach of larger vessels, including the Inian Islands where we watch for frolicking sea otters, humpback whales bubble feeding, and bald eagles soaring high overhead.
Jerre lived in Alaska for 11 years and started his career in travel during that time. His local knowledge, good humor, and extensive travels through Alaska’s Inside Passage enhances an already incredible tour. Witness the grandeur of spectacular glaciers, discover Alaska Native culture, historic Russian churches, and stories of the Gold Rush. Enjoy the seldom-visited small towns of Wrangell, Sitka, and Haines. Plus, get up-close to Alaska’s beauty on an inflatable Zodiac watercraft made famous by Jacques Cousteau. Holiday Vacations includes a complimentary $175-per-person voucher for shore excursions in addition to three included, must-see excursions, hand-selected for you by Jerre.
You can earn a $100 Travel Show Credit good for your next trip with Holiday Vacations by simply clicking the photo to watch the online travel show! Day 1 : Fly to Vancouver
Arrive in Vancouver and get to know your fellow guests and Holiday Vacations President, Jerre Fuqua, at our Welcome Dinner.
Day 2 : Vancouver Sights/Embark
Tour Vancouver with a local expert who takes us through iconic places such as Gastown, Stanley Park, Granville Island, plus the Capilano Suspension Bridge, which you may cross – if you dare! This 450-ft-long and 230-ft-high bridge is one of Vancouver’s most popular attractions. This afternoon we embark on our cruise aboard Windstar’s Star Breeze. All newly-remodeled suites feature a queen bed, safe, fresh fruit, robe & slippers, fresh flowers, hair dryers, phone, and stocked mini bar.
Day 3 : Cruising Canada’s Inside Passage
Step out on deck and surround yourself in the spectacular beauty of Canada’s Inside Passage. Covered in dense forest, enchanting coastal mountains of the passage plunge into the sea, and waterfalls cascade down steep mountainsides. Our smaller yacht means we can explore more, so if a pod of humpbacks is spotted bubble feeding, the Captain can maneuver the ship for prime viewing that only a yacht like Star Breeze can provide. Take advantage of the many shipboard amenities including hot tub, luxury spa, morning yoga, and more on this relaxing day at sea.
Day 4 : Ketchikan
Ketchikan is known as the Salmon Fishing Capital of the World, and is home to the world’s largest collection of standing totem poles. Visit a carving shed, fish, explore the Southeast Discovery Center, and learn about the 17-million-acre Tongass National Forest, or browse the shops and galleries along Creek Street.
Day 5 : Misty Fjords National Monument
Experience the largest coastal rainforest in the United States on an included Zodiac expedition through Misty Fjords National Monument. Board our inflatable Zodiac watercraft, and take in the 3,000-ft glacier-sculpted cliffs, waterfalls, and remote inlets, all cloaked in near-perpetual misty fog.
Day 6 : Wrangell
Situated near the mouth of Stikine River, Wrangell is one of Alaska’s oldest communities. Our included excursion brings the historic city to life with its colorful history and Alaska Native culture. Highlights include the Wrangell Museum, Kiks Adi Totem Park, and Wrangell’s famous anthropological site, Petroglyph Beach.
Day 7 : Sitka
This charming community is both historically and culturally significant. It was in Sitka that the contract of sale was signed, transferring Alaska from Russia to the U.S. On an included excursion, enjoy wildlife highlights and explore the history of this former Russian territory. Tour the Alaska Raptor Center, where they rescue and rehabilitate birds. Next visit Sitka National Historical Park, the 1804 battlefield featuring totem-lined trails, cultural exhibits, and Alaska Native artisans demonstrating totemic art. Our final stop is the “Fortress of the Bears,” where we are allowed to get within 25 feet of Alaskan brown and black bears.
Day 8 : Tracy Arm/Endicott Arm
Sail into Tracy Arm, a narrow fjord that, along with Endicott Arm, leads us to the twin Sawyer Glaciers. Watch for wildlife along the shorelines, plus harbor seals and a variety of birds as we maneuver the fjord.
Day 9 : Haines
Haines offers a blend of natural beauty, rich history, and cultural attractions, from the historic landmark Fort William H. Seward to special offerings, highlighting Alaska Native arts and the local Tlingit culture.
Day 10 : Juneau
Alaska’s state capital, accessible only by air or water, is nestled between the Gastineau Channel and steep coastal mountains. Enjoy optional excursions to Mendenhall Glacier, the Juneau Icefields, or ride the Mt. Roberts Tramway for breathtaking views.
Day 11 : At Sea
Enjoy this day at sea as we cross the Gulf of Alaska.
Day 12 : Cruising in Kenai Fjord National Park
Enjoy a magnificent day of cruising in Kenai Fjords National Park. Take in the wondrous, rugged landscape, carved by glaciers flowing down the Harding Icefield. The park offers rich habitats for both land and marine wildlife.
Day 13 : Disembark in Seward
This morning we disembark and travel up the Kenai Peninsula and into Chugach National Forest to beautiful Girdwood. Then ride the Alyeska Aerial Tram some 2,000 feet up the mountain for amazing glacier and coastal views of Cook Inlet. We head to Anchorage where we gather for a Holiday Vacations Farewell Lunch. Enjoy swapping stories and reliving our exciting tour highlights with new friends, including Jerre!
