Along our route we stop at Awanacancha to learn about llamas, alpacas, and other regional animals and their impact on Peruvian textiles. Later we visit the historic markets and ruins of Pisac. The next two evenings are in the Sacred Valley.

Day 4 : Inca Culture

After breakfast we visit the town of Chinchero, well known for its textiles. Visit with the artisans that explain how they knit, weave, and dye traditional Peruvian garments. After the demonstration, browse their market for a chance to take home some of their creations. Later we visit the sweeping vistas of the Maras Salt Pans, an otherworldly canyon packed with geometric salt pools, and Moray Terraces, believed to be an ancient astronomical observatory and agricultural laboratory. Fascinating history awaits us in Ollantaytambo where we explore an impressive Inca fortress of significant military, religious, and agricultural importance located on the highest part of the mountain and protected the valley from invaders.

Day 5 : Chichubamba

Our day begins with a visit to the Chichubamba community to explore their culture, food, and traditions. Join local families to learn about their traditional trades. Sample cocoa roasted right in front of you, taste the corn beverage chicha de jora, and learn how to create ceramics by working a pottery wheel. Day 6 : Mahcu Picchu

Today the legendary Lost City unfolds before our eyes. One of the world’s most impressive archaeological wonders, it sits on a mountain site of extraordinary beauty nestled in the middle of a tropical mountain forest. The towering city was built in the mid-15th century by the Inca Pachacutec and was lost to history until 1911 when it was discovered by American explorer Hiram Bingham. The most significant artifact of the Incan Empire, Machu Picchu also stands as one of their most mysterious. The Spanish records make no mention of the massive citadel, adding even more intrigue to our tour as we traverse these incredible sites. Our guided tour showcases the Sacred Sun Dial, Royal Quarters, Temple of the Three Windows, and much more. This is sure to be the highlight of our trip!

Day 7 : Aguas Calientes

We take our morning at leisure today to stroll around Aguas Calientes. Visit the markets for hand-made goods and delectable food. This afternoon we travel to Cusco and check-in to our hotel for two nights.

Our tour of the city also includes the Plaza de Armas, Cusco’s Cathedral, and the Inca citadel of Sacsayhuaman. Possibly the largest structure built by Incas, Sacsayhuaman looms over the ancient capital with rows of fortifications, terraces, and temples constructed out of enormous blocks of stone.
