Day 1 : Fly to Montana
Upon arriving in Missoula, we check in to our hotel and enjoy an evening at leisure.
Day 2 : Big Sky Country
We travel north from Missoula to Whitefish today, viewing some of the most spectacular scenery our nation has to offer. Along the way, enjoy a Welcome Lunch in Polson with incredible views of Flathead Lake and the surrounding Flathead National Forest. This afternoon, we visit Big Sky Orchards to tour their family-run hops farm and the cherry orchard before settling into our accommodations in Whitefish.
Day 3 : Going-to-the-Sun Road
After an included breakfast, we board vintage 1930s Red Buses for a journey on one of the world’s most scenic routes, Going-to-the-Sun Road. Glacier National Park features over 20 glaciers and 200 lakes as standing reminders of the last Ice Age. Throughout this drive, learn more about the park’s history from an expert guide, take in views of the towering mountains, and watch for a variety of majestic wildlife including bighorn sheep, mountain goats, elk, and moose. We enjoy lunch within the park at St. Mary Village before continuing to Great Falls.
Day 4 : Lewis & Clark Interpretive Center
We begin our day with a tour of the Lewis and Clark National Historic Trail Interpretive Center and relive the explorers’ brave journey. Overlooking the scenic Missouri River, this center includes exhibits, artifacts, films, and a two-story diorama of the expedition’s portage of the river’s waterfalls. This afternoon, we visit the C.M. Russell Museum, an art complex whose primary focus is the signature “cowboy art” of Charles Marion Russell. Our motorcoach then brings us to Helena, Montana’s capital city and our home for the next two nights.
Day 5 : Gates of the Mountains
After a relaxing morning, we depart for a guided tour of Helena to learn about its storied history and marvel at the Gothic-style cathedral, which rivals those in Europe. Our exploration includes stops at the city’s intriguing attractions, including the Montana State Capitol building. Later, majestic scenery unfolds before us during a narrated boat tour through the Gates of the Mountains. As we glide atop the Missouri River, marvel at the spectacular limestone cliffs and sheer rock walls that were described by Meriwether Lewis as “a most sublime and extraordinary spectacle.” Tonight, we enjoy an included dinner together and return to our hotel.
Day 6 : Yellowstone National Park
Today we drive to Gardiner, Montana, the original gateway to America’s first national park. Yellowstone was established in 1872 to protect a large variety of wildlife and preserve the world’s most extraordinary collection of geysers and hot springs. We have free time in the Mammoth Hot Springs area before traveling through the northern loop of Yellowstone, where we may have the opportunity to be part of the notorious bison traffic jam. Our accommodations this evening are in West Yellowstone.
Day 7 : Old Faithful
A park guide joins us this morning to explore the wonders of Yellowstone National Park. During our tour, we make stops at Old Faithful, the world's most famous geyser, and Artist Point. Have your camera ready to capture stunning views of Upper and Lower Yellowstone Falls and the multicolored Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone. A scenic drive then takes us through Hayden Valley, a region of lush forest meadows. Watch for bison and other wildlife! We depart Yellowstone this afternoon and settle in for a comfortable two-night stay in Jackson, Wyoming.
Day 8 : The Grand Tetons
This morning we visit Grand Teton National Park, boasting picturesque views of shimmering lakes, rolling meadows, and soaring mountain ranges with snow-capped peaks. At the Craig Thomas Discovery and Visitor Center, there is time to watch a video and explore the fantastic exhibit on the park’s history. We make several photo stops and visit the Chapel of the Transfiguration, a rustic log church with glorious views of the majestic Tetons. Later, we visit Mead Ranch to meet the family who has lived and raised cattle on this original homestead for over 100 years. Tonight, a covered wagon ride in Cache Creek Canyon brings us to our included dinner – a tasty barbecue cookout accompanied with the music and songs of the Old West!
Day 9 : Salt Lake City
Step aboard our comfortable motorcoach this morning for one last scenic drive, taking us from Jackson into Salt Lake City. On the way, we visit Munk Family Farms in beautiful Cache Valley and see their carousel milking parlor in action. Tonight, we celebrate with our new friends at a special Farewell Dinner. Our accommodations are in downtown Salt Lake City.
Day 10 : Fly Home
Today we return home with fond memories of our time exploring national parks and agriculture out west.
