Day 1 : Fly to Alaska

Our Alaska adventure begins with a flight to Fairbanks, “Golden Heart” of the Last Frontier. Our accommodations for the next three nights are in Fairbanks.

Day 2 : Fairbanks

Today we are introduced to Fairbanks’ history as we trace its development from the gold rush to the discovery of “Black Gold.” Get a glimpse of the famed Trans-Alaska Pipeline, and at Gold Dredge 8, learn about gold dredging and how to pan for gold, then we’ll pan for gold together and keep the treasures we find! Enjoy an all-you-can-eat lunch at Steamboat Landing, then board the Riverboat Discovery III sternwheeler for a narrated excursion on the Chena River and go ashore at a recreated Athabascan Indian camp.

Breakfast, Lunch

Day 3 : Delta Junction Farms

Today’s travels take us to the official “end of the Alaska Highway,” the friendly frontier of Delta Junction. Complemented by spectacular views of the Alaska Range, this picturesque rural setting lies in the fertile Tanana River Valley where barley is the major feed grain grown here. We have the unique opportunity to visit a family-run barley farm and mill called The Alaska Flour Company. Later we visit Mugrage Hay & Cattle to learn about raising livestock in the far north. This evening we enjoy delicious food as we’re treated to a true Alaskan experience, a traditional salmon bake. Fresh from Alaska’s icy waters, watch as skilled chefs expertly cook salmon on an open wood grill. Slow roasted prime rib and beer battered Bering Sea cod rounds out the all-you-can-eat menu.

Breakfast, Dinner

Day 4 : Denali National Park & Preserve

Sit back and relax as we travel by motorcoach through the incredible Alaskan wilderness towards a sure highlight, Denali National Park. As we make our way south we cross the Parks Highway bridge over the Tanana River and begin to climb into the Alaska Range and arrive at our lodge accommodations near Denali National Park. After a delicious lunch, we begin our guided tundra tour of Denali National Park. An expert park naturalist will be with us to provide information as we look for wildlife in this unique ecosystem.

Day 5 : Iditarod Trail Headquarters

Take in the Alaskan scenery as we travel south from Denali to the Matanuska Valley, the heart of Alaskan agriculture. This area is known for the huge vegetables grown under nearly continuous sunlight during summer months. At the Iditarod Trail Headquarters, we’ll learn about sled dogs and “mushing” through exhibits and a video presentation featuring the famous Anchorage to Nome sled dog race. Next we visit Havemeister Dairy, the only dairy farm and creamery still in operation from the Matanuska Colony days. Later we arrive at our hotel for a one-night stay in the heart of downtown Anchorage.

Our day begins with a ride on the Alaska Railroad’s Coastal Classic from Anchorage to Seward, a truly astounding journey. This train’s route is considered by many to be the most scenic in all of Alaska. Aboard the train we enjoy beautiful views of Turnagain Arm, a spectacular fjord-like inlet.
