Today begins by exploring the ancient city of Jerash, one of the best-preserved examples of Roman civilization outside of Italy. Dating back more than 6,500 years and founded as a Graeco-Roman city by Alexander the Great, Jerash was hidden beneath the sands of Jordan before its rediscovery in 1806. Wander among remarkably preserved ruins, including the Street of Columns, where towering pillars and original stone paving still bear the grooves of Roman chariots. This afternoon, travel to the legendary Dead Sea, the lowest place on Earth and one of the world's saltiest bodies of water. Enjoy time to float effortlessly in its mineral-rich waters, experience its renowned healing mud, or simply relax amid the serene surroundings. Later, continue to Petra and check in to your hotel. As evening falls, discover the truly magical attraction: Petra by Night. Walk through the narrow Siq by the glow of hundreds of flickering candles before arriving at the iconic Treasury, known as Al-Khazneh, an ancient mausoleum carved out of the mountainside. Here, traditional Bedouin music and a star-filled sky create an unforgettable atmosphere amidst ancient sandstone cliffs and monuments.
This morning, discover the awe-inspiring ancient city of Petra, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the New Seven Wonders of the World. Hidden from the outside world for more than 1,000 years, the “Red Rose City” reveals breathtaking pink and red sandstone cliffs as you travel the winding canyon road back to the Treasury and other captivating ruins. Explore the ancient theater, royal courts, Qasr al-Bint, the Temple of the Winged Lion, and other archaeological treasures! Next, journey into the spectacular desert landscapes of Wadi Rum, known as the "Valley of the Moon." Embark on a jeep tour to see soaring sandstone mountains, natural rock arches, and prehistoric carvings etched into the cliffs. Tonight, experience the warm hospitality of the Bedouin people in their traditional tent. Savor regional specialties beneath a brilliant canopy of stars while learning about the enduring culture of these nomads who have called Jordan's deserts home for thousands of years.
Your Jordan adventure concludes with a drive on the 5,000-year-old King’s Highway to Mount Nebo, one of the country's most revered landmarks. According to tradition, this is where Moses first viewed the Promised Land before his death. Rising more than 2,000 feet above the Jordan Valley, this revered mountaintop in the Abarim range boasts sweeping views of the Dead Sea, Bethlehem, and, on a clear day, even Jerusalem! Explore the 4th-century Byzantine church and monastery, where beautifully restored mosaic floors depict scenes of local life, wildlife, and the ancient King's Highway. Nearby, you can also see the striking Brazen Serpent sculpture. Your journey then continues to historic Madaba, the City of Mosaics, for an included lunch before boarding a flight to Cairo.
