The Butchart Gardens®
Previously a limestone quarry, this National Historic Site is a horticultural wonderland of meticulously designed landscapes, vibrant flowerbeds, and themed gardens. After Robert Butchart depleted the limestone deposits, his wife created the famous Sunken Garden. Since 1906, it has expanded to Japanese and Italian-style gardens as well as stunning rose gardens. Now there are over 900 plant varieties that bloom every year, attracting more than a million visitors annually.
