Savor the South: San Antonio to New Orleans

Step back in time to witness 300 years of history unfold at The Alamo, a legendary symbol of courage and resilience for Texas. See the church, built in the early 1700s as a Spanish foothold for Catholic missionaries and famously known as the site of the 13-day siege, Battle of the Alamo. Walk the hallowed grounds of the heroes who dared to defy the odds, learn how this battle influenced the state’s fight for independence from Mexico, marvel at hundreds of priceless artifacts, and be immersed life back then at the living history encampment.

Blast off to the official museum and visitor center of NASA’s Johnson Space Center! Learn about lunar missions and see out-of-this-world exhibits, including the SpaceX Falcon 9 Rocket Exhibit, the Starship Gallery, Mission Mars, the International Space Station Gallery, and the Spacesuit Collection. We also go inside a replica of the Independence shuttle that’s mounted on top of the original NASA 905 shuttle carrier aircraft and take a tram tour at Johnson Space Center.

Spend three nights in the heart of New Orleans at Bienville House Hotel, just a short walk to the stunning Mississippi Riverfront. Explore this historic area that’s made famous for its rich music scene, vibrant nightlife, elaborate iron balconies, and Creole-Cajun cuisine. Stroll down Bourbon Street to visit jazz clubs, shop local crafts at the French Market, and cheer along with the crowds watching street performers at Jackson Square. You may also enjoy a traditional horse-drawn carriage ride through the captivating neighborhoods.

Learn how to craft Louisiana’s bold flavors during a cooking demonstration at the New Orleans School of Cooking, located in a renovated warehouse from the 1800s. A talented local chef entertains and educates our group while preparing authentic Cajun and Creole cuisine. We then sample various dishes, complemented by local beer or sweet tea, and take a recipe card to recreate these delicious delights back home. 

Journey back to the 1800s at this historic landmark along the majestic Mississippi River. Stroll through the stunning gardens with vibrant blooms, then enjoy an exquisite farm-to-table lunch made with locally sourced ingredients and flavors that celebrate the region. Afterwards, tour the opulent interiors of the Greek-revival mansion to admire its intricate architecture, lavish decor, and artifacts that whisper tales of bygone eras.

Unwind on a scenic, narrated cruise along the picturesque Paseo del Rio! Our guide shares San Antonio’s rich history and culture as we glide past lush landscapes, charming bridges, and iconic landmarks, including the city’s first neighborhood. We also see the Old Mill Crossing, colorful umbrellas in front of riverside restaurants and boutiques, and a unique blend of Spanish, Mexican, and modern architecture.
