Denali, the highest peak in North America, is so tall that it often becomes shrouded by clouds. We may be fortunate enough to catch a glimpse of the top if the skies are clear! Keep on the lookout for grizzly bears, moose, caribou, and Dall sheep as we explore this immaculate part of the Last Frontier.

The Kenai Peninsula is one of the most awe-inspiring and majestic places in the state. From the train, witness unbelievable scenery, considered the finest in Alaska, while traveling towards the Ice Age wonderland of Kenai Fjords National Park. On a high-speed catamaran, pay special attention to the water for visitors such as sea otters, seals, and whales. One of our personal favorite activities is an astounding visit to the Yukon Territory, especially Kluane Lake. Come face-to-face with perfect wilderness and crystal-clear water at the largest lake in the Yukon. Visit the land where there are more moose than people and the views are inspiration for paintings and postcards.

To take a bit of a step back from full wilderness immersion, take a stop in the coastal city of Anchorage, home to around 40% of Alaska’s population. Tucked between the base of mountains and two arms of the sea, this city offers a picturesque skyline, enrichment at the Anchorage Museum, and plenty of activities showcasing the city’s history with nature. The city is well-known for its native heritage and connection to the environment with the stunning Chugach State Park being almost completely within the city’s municipality. Getting to know the unique city of Anchorage and its history is a fulfilling experience not to be missed.

One of the most enriching and powerful parts of Alaska is its extensive native past and culture. A visit to the Athabascan Native Camp, located on the confluence of the Chena and Tanana rivers, provides a deep dive into the lives and activities of Alaska’s Athabascans, both past and present. The camp is a recreated Athabascan village used primarily for fishing and hunting and gives visitors a glimpse into a traditional native lifestyle. Having this immersive opportunity to appreciate cultural history is something to be appreciated, enjoyed, and surely not missed!
